Saharna

Sfânta Treime Monastery, situated in Saharna village, was built in 1777, and is one of the most popular pilgrimage places in Moldova. It is located in one of the most beautiful natural environment in the country, on the right bank of Nistru river.

Above the monastery is the rocky hill called Grimidon, where, according to a legend, a footprint of Saint Maria was found. Climbing the hill is an interesting experience; the view is magnificent.

Near the monastery flows Saharna river, which forms a 16 km-long canyon. Covered by forest, Saharna river canyon forms over 30 rapids and waterfalls, creating amazing views.

The best preserved Geto-Dacian headland fortress was found in Saharna as well, and dates back to 4th-3rd centuries BC. Saharna is situated about 110 km North of Chisinau.
